'We are here because we believe in saving Brazil from socialism'

Approximately ten thousand people gathered today in front of the Londrina Military Shooting Range to protest the election of convict to the Presidency of the Republic. Carrying national flags, dressed in green and yellow, chanting patriotic anthems, the demonstrators contest the result of the series of frauds and interferences that ended up leading Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the highest office of the nation. The main target of the protesters' criticism is the president of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes, responsible for several decisions that distorted the electoral process and favored one side of the dispute.

The revolt of the people from Londrina comes one day after a statement by President Jair Bolsonaro, who defended the popular demonstrations against the injustices of the electoral process. Bolsonaro did not recognize the legitimacy of Lula's victory and stressed that he will strictly follow the Federal Constitution, as he has been doing since the beginning of his mandate.

For the agronomist João Favoreto, the spontaneous manifestation of the people represents a hope for the Brazilian democracy. "It is a peaceful, orderly and spontaneous act, in which the main objective is to reestablish truth and justice," he said.

The self-employed Rubens Vieira took his whole family to a square near the Military Shooting Range and they all intend to stay there until the whole truth about the great electoral fraud comes to light. "What the STF and Alexandre de Moraes did is an affront to the Brazilian people. This election was stolen," declared Rubens.

Designer Walter Koyama emphasizes the spontaneous character of the demonstrations. "No politician, no leadership, no institution called this act or articulated the people's reaction. We are here because we believe in saving Brazil from socialism."
