Another parent was assaulted by a school employee over a mask last week during a Pennsylvania school board meeting. The incident highlights the rising tensions between parents and schools over COVID-19 mandates.
Nathan Liang, father of two, arrived at the Downingtown Area School District board meeting on Wednesday night to make a two-minute public comment about the school’s mask mandate. Liang had a scarf wrapped twice around his head, covering his nose and mouth, which qualifies as a valid mask according to the Department of Education.
But to the mask guard placed at the door by the school, Liang’s face covering wasn’t good enough. The guard was in the middle of denying entrance to Shannon Grady, another parent, for not having a mask when Liang walked up and tried to walk in, but the guard blocked his path.
“That does not qualify as a mask,” the guard can be heard saying in the video.
The guard insisted that Liang wear a surgical mask and asked him to step away from the door. Liang barely had a moment to move when the guard was already lunging at him, shoving and punching Liang repeatedly as Liang tries to hold his own.
The guard then went inside and locked the door.
“Do people realize that right now we are starting, like Germany or China activities?” Liang said to The Epoch Times. “This shouldn’t be happening. That man at the door, I don’t know his life or anything, but I’m sure he’s a normal person. It shows that normal people can be subverted into thinking they are doing good,” Laing said. “I hope this wakes people up to show them how close we are to becoming Germany. It’s kind of scary. I never thought that would happen to me just trying to attend the school board meeting on children.”
Pennsylvania schools are no longer under a legal mask mandate, as the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled in December. Some schools such as Downingtown, however, have decided to enact their own.
That’s why Melanie Lewis was thrown out of the school for not wearing a mask during the meeting. After her two-minute public comment, the mother of four was told that she was a “disturbance” and was ordered to leave.
“They’re not doing this for children’s health,” Lewis said. “They’re doing it for the teacher unions and control, because who are they without COVID? With COVID, they have importance in the community. Who are they if this all drops? They go back to their boring lives of being nobody.”
Just the day before, in Webster, New York, parent Dave Calus was physically assaulted at a school board meeting for not wearing a mask. Although other parents were also not wearing masks, the security guard chose Calus.
The video of the incident went viral until even Joe Rogan weighed in on the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience.
“There’s a guy who just got pulled out of some school council meeting,” Rogan said. “He was a father that was in the audience and he didn’t have a mask on — they physically assaulted him and pulled him out of the meeting because he didn’t have a mask on.”
“Like, folks — you’re looking around with all these people with cloth masks on, this is nonsense,” Rogan continued. “It’s been proven to be nonsense. We know it’s nonsense, now.”
When Webster School District was pressed for a comment, they issued a statement blaming Calus, saying that by refusing to wear a mask, he was not being ‘civil’.
