With Omicron ripping through populations as if vaccines had never been invented, talk of herd immunity has suddenly become almost politically correct, even in Israel where pride in vast, swift coverage with Pfizer shots is even more endemic than the virus itself.“The trend is upwards,” said Israel Health Ministry Director Professor Nachman Ash in a radio interview at the end of December. “Where will it stop? It’s hard to know. The price of herd immunity is very many infections, and that may end up happening. The numbers need to be high to reach herd immunity … But we don’t want to reach it by means of infections,” he added. “We want it to happen as a result of many people getting vaccinated.”A few days later, however, Israeli public health officials were very publicly seeking to distance themselves from any suggestion that herd immunity might be the way to go, to the point that the government’s coronavirus commissar Professor Salman Zarka denied that the concept of herd immunity had any scientific basis. “Herd immunity means enormous infection rates, with seriously ill patients and consequences and complications,” Dr. Orly Greenfield, medical director of Israel’s national program to combat COVID told <a href="https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/319817" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Israel National News</a>. “We do not want herd immunity for an illness like this.”What happened? Greenfield, continued, “We absolutely have not given up. We are continuing the war against the pandemic…” From the outset, this is how governments have termed their efforts to protect public health – in terms of war, battle, victory – or surrender. Obviously, in a war surrender is the same as losing. And that was how the one outlier in the global battle was viewed, namely Sweden. Sweden did not lock down along with the rest of Europe and was not just derided but actually vilified, almost as if its government was complicit in the murder of its citizens with its insistence that herd immunity was not just desirable but inevitable.Two years have passed since then, and at the end of December, the <a href="https://www.bmj.com/content/375/bmj.n3081" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">British Medical Journal </a>(BMJ) decided to take another look at Sweden and see how its approach of “let’s trust citizens to get this right themselves” has panned out.During the first stage of the pandemic, up until October, 2020, “the number of overall cases and deaths in Sweden was low,” the BMJ admits. However, during the second wave in the winter of 2020-1, the country saw a “spike” in cases. So too, of course, did many other countries, locked down or otherwise. Many Swedes had lost their nerve by then, including the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55347021" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">King </a>who called his country’s handling of the pandemic a “failure.” The Prime Minister agreed; the government commissioned an inquiry into its COVID response – its conclusions, published in late 2021, were that the government had responded too slowly and insufficiently and that its preparedness had been “non-existent.”So much for the first year of the pandemic. For its second year, the BMJ gives its cautious approval of Sweden’s “new pandemic powers,” even though in comparison with the sweeping powers claimed by other governments the Swedish kind were pretty mild, including recommendations rather than mandates to wear masks while using public transportation, and limits on crowding in public areas rather than closing places like gyms or parks altogether. All the same, according to the BMJ these measures “seemed to work … case numbers dropped and by the start of June, restrictions were removed gradually until all were lifted by the end of September.”This period coincided with the vaccine rollout in Sweden; around 80 percent of the population there is now described as fully vaccinated. However, “the respite [provided by restrictions plus vaccination] has lasted barely two months,” the article continues. Cases started to rise again in November (just as they did in many other parts of the world), and Sweden reimposed restrictions, including, this time, vaccine mandates for large public indoor gatherings (but not for leisure or cultural activities). And the numbers are still rising.The British Medical Journal’s conclusion is clearly stated: “The experts The BMJ spoke to are clear: Sweden’s situation remains precarious.” The problem is that if you asked those same “experts,” the situation in the rest of the world is also quite precarious. Omicron is spiking all over the place.And that was also what Anders Tegnell, Swedish state epidemiologist, told the BMJ. “Swedish statistics do not differ from other European countries … Countries that went through lockdowns are not doing that much better … After two years of pandemic, Sweden does not stand out. We are not the best, but we are definitely not the worst.”Enough of the discussion and time for some facts, courtesy of OECD Health Statistics 2021. Here we have a guide to “excess deaths,” namely the proportional increase in deaths in 2020 in comparison to the average of the five preceding years. Here we see Sweden doing rather well indeed, and only slightly behind its Scandinavian neighbors which locked down far more harshly and for much longer.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><a href="https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/sites/ec2de914-en/index.html?itemId=/content/component/ec2de914-en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><img src="/uploads/oecd_sweden_a337b5c59e.png"></a></figure> &nbsp;The European Union also provides statistics regarding excess mortality right up to October, 2021. Two facts stand out when looking at the graph below. The first is that regardless of measures taken to “flatten the curve,” “defeat COVID,” or “curb the spread of coronavirus,” the waves go up and down more-or-less uniformly, lockdown or no, vaccine or no. The second fact is that Sweden has done much better than most other countries. For clarity, just four are pictured here; Finland, Sweden, France, and Germany. Finland’s orange line runs mostly below – but not far below – the Swedish green line, but picks up toward the end.&nbsp;&nbsp;<figure class="image"><a href="https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/cache/recovery-dashboard/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><img src="/uploads/sweden_excess_deaths_dcb5b175db.png"></a></figure>&nbsp;“This is what we are still struggling to understand,” Tegnell told the BMJ. “Some measures work in some places, but it is difficult to see patterns.” It certainly is hard to see man-made patterns, to find proof for the efficacy of measures taken by governments desperate to feel in control of the situation and “win the war against COVID.”

A war that can't be won: What can we learn from Sweden's example?

By Alex NewmanAs the global war on educational liberty heats up, Johns Hopkins School of Education is launching a new “<a href="https://education.jhu.edu/edpolicy/policy-research-initiatives/homeschool-hub/">Homeschool Hub</a>” that has experts and advocates deeply concerned. Many say it is part of the escalating effort to bring homeschooling families under government control.&nbsp;The new entity is funded by advocates of taxpayer funding for private and home education. The United Nations education agency in recent years has called on governments to fund “non-state education providers” with tax money in order to impose “equity” goals, national testing regimes, “non-discrimination” schemes, and more.&nbsp;Leaders in the homeschooling movement and Christian education told The Newman Report that this scheme by Johns Hopkins posed a “clear and present danger” to home educators. From the information that is publicly available so far, those concerns do not appear unreasonable.&nbsp;Virtually the entire leadership of prominent national and state homeschooling organizations have been opposed to government funding of home education. In fact, homeschooling families and advocacy organizations have been a constant thorn in the side of “school choice” advocates seeking to get home educators hooked on tax funds.&nbsp;The reason why leaders of the homeschooling movement have been largely united on the issue is simple. They believe control and regulation by government will be the inevitable result of taxpayer money — especially since this is what the historical record shows. Concerns about dependency and expanding the size and scope of government exist, too.However, by bringing a new player into homeschooling world — a powerful voice backed by academic credentials and big money seeking “school choice” funding — critics are concerned about possible nefarious intentions. The goal seems to be, in part, to sideline and displace existing voices in the movement. &nbsp; &nbsp;On its website, the new “Homeschool Hub” styles itself the “one-stop shop for current information on homeschooling data, regulations, and research across the United States.” Supposedly, in-depth data and information on all fifty states will be made available on the site, though it has not been fully fleshed out yet.&nbsp;“As homeschooling continues to expand and evolve, we need a better understanding of this growing and diversifying education sector,” argued Dr. Angela Watson, Homeschool Hub creator and assistant professor of education. “We need policy based on facts, not historical stereotypes. My hope is that the Homeschool Hub will help fill these needs.”There are already multiple established and credible services offering exactly that kind of information online. These include the <a href="https://hslda.org/">Home School Legal Defense Association</a> (HSLDA), a powerhouse with detailed insights on the legal environment serving hundreds of thousands of member families that opposes government funding and control of homeschooling.&nbsp;Another major resource on homeschooling data and research is the <a href="https://www.nheri.org/">National Home Education Research Institute</a> (NHERI). Widely recognized as the top repository for research on homeschooling in the world, NHERI and its leader, Dr. Brain Ray, have long been seen as the “one-stop shop” for the latest news, data, research, and insight into homeschooling. Dr. Ray also opposes government funding and control of homeschooling.&nbsp;On its website, the Hub suggests that it will seek to displace those sources to help inform future regulation and policy on home education. “Our goal is to remove barriers to rigorous research, increase transparency, and expand awareness to encourage evidence-driven policy,” the site says without explaining what barriers it believes may exist to research or “evidence-driven policy.”&nbsp;As the far-left Washington Post strategically targets existing homeschooling leaders and institutions, the new hub aims to become “the leader” in the field of homeschooling research. “As homeschooling grows, the Homeschool Hub will serve as the leader in promoting rigorous homeschool research and responding to the need for more transparency from this growing sector,” the site added.&nbsp;When the establishment speaks of “transparency,” that is generally a dog whistle for increasing surveillance, control, data-gathering, and intrusions on privacy.The new hub’s website, citing unnamed supposed “critics,” also cites the alleged risks that “unregulated” home education might feature, including “indoctrination” or even that parents with “conservative Christian values” may seek to “isolate” their children. &nbsp;On April 25, the new Homeschool Hub, hosted at Johns Hopkins “Institute for Education Policy” and its “School of Education,” will be holding a major event on home education. Headlined “Beyond the Traditional Classroom: The Rise of Homeschooling and Its Impact on Education in America,” the event will formally launch the new hub, according to the announcement.Numerous high-profile panelists with no real ties to the homeschooling movement will participate. These include various university officials and faculty members, an adviser to the scandal-plagued World Bank, an “education reporter” at the viciously anti-homeschooling Washington Post, and a senior U.S. Department of Education official.&nbsp;Johns Hopkins, notable for pioneering transgender mutilation of children and other barbarism, is open about the fact that it is partnering with <a href="https://www.edchoice.org/">EdChoice</a>, a well-known and well-funded group seeking what it calls “school choice.” The movement, launched by legendary economist Milton Friedman, is among the leading advocates of tax funding for home education and private schools. &nbsp;Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins is based in Baltimore, Maryland, the first state that sought to create a state-run homeschooling “council” to supposedly speak for homeschooling families and advise authorities. The controversial plan, which became a lightning rod of criticism among home educators, was widely seen as a ploy to bring in regulation and control.&nbsp;<img class="image_resized" style="width:332px;" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.freedomproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/3364780_1225x377_2500.jpg?resize=696%2C214&amp;ssl=1" alt="">With homeschooling becoming a major threat to the government’s “education” narrative and monopoly, it is no surprise to see the establishment work to crush it, co-opt it, or both. Tyrants across the United States and around the world are openly waging war on home education. <h2>Genetic engineering puts the natural world at risk</h2>Genetic engineering going from the lab, to the field, to the wildYou may have heard about the genetically modified mosquitos <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-01070-x" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">released</a> in Florida to mitigate a Florida invasive species spreading zika and dengue, yet that is only one aspect of how synthetic biology (synbio) can affect nature. Jim Thomas of ETC Group (Action Group on Erosion, Technology and Concentration) <a href="https://www.etcgroup.org/content/video-lab-field-forest" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">spoke</a> about the potential dangers synbio may have on biodiversity and how we look after, conserve, share, and use the natural world.The video below, in which Thomas discusses the threats and new trends we'll have to start dealing with, gives us a window into a world that most of us may not be aware of, but should. His talk results from a discussion held by the Convention on Biological Diversity's Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group.&nbsp;Thomas brought forward the following three issues associated with the technology and nature:1. Tools of genetic engineering are being put out into the field. Previously, genetically engineered organisms would have been created in the lab. Now they can release genetically engineered viruses or organisms into the field that can genetically engineer other organisms out in the field. Examples he called "crazy" include a “project by the US defense establishment called ‘insect allies to genetically engineer plants’.” He expressed “worry about it being a potential bioweapon but also a big shift in terms of doing the genetic engineering in an uncontrolled environment and changing nature.”2. &nbsp;Synbio is being used for conservation applications. Previously, biodiversity and conservation were about protecting the natural world. Now synbio is being used for such projects as eradicating invasive species by releasing synthetic organisms or genetically engineering corals to withstand climate change. “The idea that conservation could be done by making synthetic ecosystems is a really big shift” he said.. . . . [N]ow you've got these proposals of turning the natural world into a kind of synthetic version of itself and that could really upturn how we protect the wild and natural world.&nbsp;3. Machines and algorithms, artificial intelligence, and robots are taking over genetic engineering.&nbsp;<blockquote>Large automated genetic engineering foundries called biofoundries that use artificial intelligence to make tens of thousands of organisms at a time, not from a human's mind but to design them using artificial intelligence, . . . &nbsp;and one day to go out into the environment. And, it raises a real safety question because, if you have something go wrong, you potentially don't understnd why it went wrong. With artificial intelligence, it's a bit of a black box. . . . If you're asking artificial intelligence to redesign nature and release that into the environment then you've got a big problem in terms of trying to understand safety and if something goes wrong understanding what went wrong.&nbsp;</blockquote>The group of experts, Thomas said, all “felt that there needs to be a process for scanning the horizon and monitoring and assessing new developments in genetic engineering. The treatment is therefore life enhancing and even lifesaving and is not taken lightly; it is not a lifestyle choice.</blockquote>&nbsp;Is “Demi” code-language for “moral”?According to <a href="https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-demisexual-5082519" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">verywellmind</a>, the word “demisexuality” became more mainstream as far back as 2008. They describe a demisexual person as someone who,<blockquote>experiences sexual attraction only when they feel a true emotional bond with another person.</blockquote><a href="https://www.webmd.com/sex/what-demiromanticism-means" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">WebMD</a> defines a “demiromantic” person as,<blockquote>someone who only develops romantic feelings for another person when they have a strong emotional connection to them.</blockquote>Whatever one's views on the other 19 items on the list, it is possible that the inclusion of two terms that signify a move toward traditional morality is a step in the right direction, if only to give young (and older) people a "woke" option of refusing close physical contact outside the bounds of marriage.

But in communications with his mother, William said he was experiencing difficulties.“I had spoken to him and they were also giving him <a href="https://www.drugs.com/toradol.html">Toradol</a> for pain,” Harvell said. “He was in a lot of pain, and they said that he kept pulling the mask off, so they had the oxygen on too hard.”According to Harvell, a nurse told William the oxygen was “on too hard” because he was trying to pull the mask off of his face. “She was basically blaming him,” Harvell said.Still, William’s outlook initially looked good, based on tests conducted at the hospital.“I received a text from his wife saying his blood tests were good,” Harvell recalled. “They had unhooked the IV, they had taken him off fluids — he didn’t need them anymore. His blood count looked good.”Harvell said William was told “he should be doing well in a couple of days.” That was 36 hours before he died.“By Jan. 6, he indicated that he wasn’t getting any better and he might need to be moved,” Harvell said, referring to a text message William sent his family that day.By this point, William was diagnosed with pneumonia. But Harvell learned her son was not receiving appropriate treatment for it at the hospital. Instead, they were still giving him remdesivir.“I asked, ‘Are they giving you an antibiotic?’ He said no, and he said, ‘They’re watching me for blood clots.’ Now, why would they watch him for blood clots with a respiratory infection? I said, ‘Are they giving you a blood thinner? Are they giving you <a href="https://www.drugs.com/plavix.html">Plavix</a> or aspirin?’ He said no [and that] they said, ‘There’s something might be wrong with my liver.’”“This is a side effect of remdesivir,” Harvell said.According to Harvell, “The next day, [the hospital] drugged him, they put him on a ventilator, and he passed.” But when she tried to find out more information from the hospital, staff initially only told her they had taken him off fluids.She said he coded twice and they were able to bring him back. But the third time they were “busy” with other patients and just could not bring him back. “They were just too busy,” Harvell said.“He drove there and left in a body bag, and my first words were, ‘What happened?’ That hospital failed him. We were expecting him to come home. They had just taken the IV out,” Harvell said.Family kept in the dark about renal failureIt took three weeks for the hospital to release William’s death certificate, Harvell said, and the release required the assistance of the funeral home. When finally released, the death certificate listed William’s causes of death as COVID-19, pneumonia and renal failure.“I did not know about the renal failure until I received the death certificate,” Harvell said. Other family members, including William’s wife, also were kept in the dark, according to Harvell.Harvell said the hospital did not receive informed consent from William or his family before administering remdesivir. Instead, Harvell alleges hospital staff did not tell William he was suffering from renal failure.She said:“He had pneumonia. He should have been given an antibiotic for pneumonia. If they were watching him for blood clots, why wasn’t he on a blood thinner? … And he not once mentioned [renal failure], so I don’t even think he knew that he was in renal failure because he would’ve told me. He would’ve told his wife. He would’ve told somebody. He would’ve told his dad.”According to Harvell, hospital staff did not offer William alternative COVID-19 treatments, such as <a href="https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/preventive-ivermectin-reduced-covid-mortality/">ivermectin</a>.She noted that William was unvaccinated, but that likely didn’t play a role in the treatment he received at the hospital, because in early January 2021, COVID-19 vaccines were not yet being administered to his age group.“I’ve had COVID twice. My husband is 77. He’s had COVID twice. If anything, we would be the ones to pass away. But we didn’t go to the hospital. We didn’t take remdesivir. I took ivermectin and we’re fine,” Harvell said.“If William would’ve stayed out of the hospital, he most likely would’ve lived,” she added.‘Your story might be somebody else’s healing path’“The worst thing that could ever happen to anybody is losing a child,” Harvell said. “I feel bad because [his son] Liam has to grow up without a dad, and William was the best dad … He was a family man. He loved his family.”Harvell said that the pain of losing William drove her into action. She joined online COVID-19 support groups and became an activist for other <a href="https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/grace-schara-lawsuit-medical-battery-trial/">victims of COVID-19 hospital protocols</a> and vaccines.“With the COVID grief groups, we were communicating, and it was like they knew what I was talking about. They didn’t argue with me and say, ‘Oh, it’s just part of it.’ They would say, ‘That happened to my husband too, or my daughter too, or my son too,’” she said.“That’s how we came up with those 25 commonalities,” Harvell added, referring to a list of <a href="https://chbmp.org/commonalities/">25 COVID Protocol Commonalities</a> in the treatment received by unvaccinated COVID-19 patients in hospitals.The list was developed by the <a href="https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/covid-protocol-victims-remdesivir/">FormerFeds Group Freedom Foundation</a>, a group advocating on behalf of COVID-19 hospital protocol victims and their families.“The 25 commonalities are just an eye opener and have encouraged me to go out and educate other people,” Harvell said. “I have people that come in my business and almost daily, I tell them about ivermectin, I tell them about remdesivir.”Harvell said many people she’s spoken with, at her business or in online support groups, have shared similar stories involving their family members.“I cannot tell you how many local mothers who have lost sons have contacted me, or even when their son was in the hospital, they would contact me and say, ‘What was that drug that they gave your son?’” Harvell said.Through her involvement with FormerFeds, Harvell is helping to raise money, through a cookbook, “Home-Cooked Memories: From Our Hearts to your Table,” containing recipes submitted by family members of COVID-19 hospital protocol victims and a stainless steel<a href="https://formerfedsgroup.org/shop/medic-alert-bracelets/bracelet/"> Medic-Alert bracelet</a> that allows people to disclose they are allergic to remdesivir, fentanyl and other drugs.FormerFeds is also involved in a class-action <a href="https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/gilead-falsely-advertised-remdesivir-lawsuit/">lawsuit against remdesivir distributor Gilead</a>.Harvell had some words of advice for others who may be enduring experiences similar to hers regarding the loss or injury of a family member due to the COVID-19 hospital protocols or vaccines.“Reach out to other people,” she said. “There are groups out there, there are people out there that understand, that are supportive, that will pray for you, that will listen to you, that will not judge you,” she said.“Being active and telling people what happened is a healing process too,” Harvell added. “It will help you heal.
